Will CBD show up on a drugs test?

Will CBD show up on a drug test?

Will you test positive from CBD oil if you take a drug test?

Probably one of the most common questions asked.

Many people whether FIFO workers, heavy machinery operators, elite athletes and more, have often been asked at random to do their business, often supervised, into a clear plastic cup.

Urine tests tend to be one of the more common forms of testing due to it being low cost and effective, the question, "will CBD show up on one of these?" Well the answer is more complicated than a simple yes or no, so we will do our best to provide you as much clarity as possible.

It depends, it all comes down to the CBD oil you are taking. A drug test can detect small amounts of THC, so you need to have a look at the type of CBD available and the drug tests themselves.

CBD itself will not show up on a standard drug test as drug tests are not designed to look for it, CBD is completely legal in many countries and quite a grey area in many others. Although it may not be legal in certain countries, no private or government agencies are testing for it as they are intelligent enough to understand that it has no psychoactive properties and cannot affect you doing your job.

If, however your CBD is contaminated with THC than you may very well fail a drug test. Whether or not your CBD is contaminated comes down to a number of variables, the two most important being the hemp quality and the extraction method.

CBD starts with hemp, hemp of course comes from the same family as marijuana, the Cannabis Sativa, the main difference of course being the THC levels. The THC levels of industrial hemp of which CBD comes from is required to be below 0.3% so you could smoke a field of it and still not get the euphoric effect that marijuana users experience.

So, you now have your hemp with under 0.3% THC, you need to look at the extraction method. There are two main types of product post extraction, a Full Spectrum or an Isolate/Broad Spectrum.

In short, the Full Spectrum contains all of the cannabinoids, terpenes and other compounds found naturally in the plant, including THC. It is widely believed that the Full Spectrum is more beneficial, as the compounds interact with each other in what has been labelled the 'entourage effect'. This is not to say that the Isolate is not effective, it is just simply CBD in it's purest form.

Whereas the isolate is much more refined to produce a product that is 100% CBD. This means all of the other cannabinoids and terpenes are completely removed and the pure CBD tends to be mixed with a carrier oil such as hemp seed oil or MCT oil.

To summarize, if drug testing is a regular ongoing part of your life and you are concerned, then we would suggest using the Isolate as this will not show up in a drug test.

If on the other hand this is not the case, then the full spectrum ahead!
